Bangor University is a University in a city. Established in 1884 and now celebrating its 125th anniversary, Bangor mixes traditional academic excellence with cutting-edge research and equipment. 

Over half of the Schools assessed to date in the teaching quality assessments have received the top rating of 'excellent', while the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008) has confirmed Bangor's status as a research-led university with an international perspective, having identified world-leading research in all of its 19 assessed subject areas.

Bangor is also rated the top university in the UK for help and support provided to students, reflecting the priority given to enhancing the student experience for those from all backgrounds and of all ages.

Location
Bangor provides one of the best university locations in the UK, well-deserving of its place in the top three best university towns. It is situated between the mountains of Snowdonia and the Irish Sea, at the centre of a region that attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists each year, offering some of the finest beaches and most dramatic scenery in the country, as well as a wealth of cultural heritage in the form of castles, monuments and countless other emblems of North Wales's living history. Porthaethwy (Menai Bridge)

Students can rest assured that Bangor is a relatively safe place to live. The crime-rate is believed to be amongst the lowest in the UK and, as it is a compact city, university buildings, accommodation and the city centre are all within safe walking distance. As Bangor is not an industrialised city, pollution levels are low, and the proximity of the mountains and the coast offer unparalleled opportunities for outdoor pursuits.
Menai Straits

Living in Bangor enables students to combine a high-quality educational experience with a wonderful living environment. North Wales is an area of outstanding natural beauty, yet close to major cities such as Manchester and Liverpool, so travelling to and from Bangor is easy – only a two-hour train journey from Manchester International Airport and 3.5 hours from London.

There is a halal store in Bangor city center that sells wide range of halal meats, asian herbs, vegetables and groceries. There are also three restaurants serving halal foods and takeaways.
